ELBOW PAIN

The elbow can be a real pain sometimes

E
lbow conditions often present as “tennis elbow” or “golfer’s elbow” which are common overuse injuries not limited to athletes. “Tennis elbow” or lateral epicondylitis, used by healthcare professionals, is elbow pain caused by repetitive strain on the forearm extensor muscles. “Golfer’s elbow” or medial epicondylitis, affects the inner part of the elbow. Both conditions are very treatable.

Elbow pain presents itself in the form of a sharp or aching pain, combined with a feeling of weakness when attempting common tasks. In some cases, the pain felt at the elbow can be referred from the neck or be associated with wrist dysfunction. The symptoms in both of these common elbow complaints are often worsened with forearm activity, like using a computer mouse, turning a door handle, carrying bags or even shaking hands.

Elbow pain can come about from doing any number of activities on a regular basis.  Common signs and symptoms of “tennis elbow” can include pain or burning on the outer part of your elbow; and pain with wrist and elbow extension.

Common signs and symptoms of “golfer’s elbow” can include pain or burning on the inside part of your elbow; and pain with hand gripping and elbow flexion.
